ELIGIBILITY TO BECOME MEMBER
You must be enrolled at Southwestern College.
You must have successfully completed at least 12 semester units of coursework.
You must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5
You must adhere to the moral standards of the society.
MEMBERSHIP
Behind the Scenes
Membership eligibility is based on your outstanding GPA; therefore, membership is a special honor afforded to a small group of outstanding students.
Members pay a one-time membership fee** of $100.00 which enrolls them in the organization on the local, regional and international levels. After induction, members must simply
maintain a GPA of 3.25 to remain members.
Phi Theta Kappa membership guarantees you access to more benefits than any other student organization. As a member, your academic excellence will be recognized with the Golden Key Membership Pin, membership certificate and identification card, notation of membership on your diploma and transcripts and the privilege of wearing Phi Theta Kappa regalia at graduation.
Membership also includes an array of benefits designed to help you grow as a scholar and servant leader. The local chapter allows you to network with a local group of scholars on campus and hone critical leadership and business skills such as researching real-life issues in your community, working on a team to plan ways to impact or resolve those issues, learning to effectively communicate and collaborate with fellow students, faculty, administration and local businesses to improve the community, and learning to negotiate conflicts in a positive way through our Honors in Action programming.

Other benefits that are available without participation in the local chapter include a news release announcing your membership sent to your local newspaper; eligibility to apply for scholarships offered by Phi Theta Kappa to fund both associate and baccalaureate degree studies; and letters of recommendation to scholarship officials and potential employers. You will be automatically enrolled free of charge in CollegeFish.org, a transfer planning program that also includes detailed information on transfer scholarships offered only to Phi Theta Kappa members.
